Gadag to Hospet – 93 K
This morning’s ride was along farm fields and open spaces. It is very common to see scarecrows of ALL kinds in any given field… this scarecrow was of the short and stocky variety:
In one of the villages this was a unique water station – the ladies were filling their water pots with the water running down the sides of this concrete cylinder. It’s hard to see the water, but it is spilling over the top and running down all sides of it. The water must be pumped up through the metal pipes but I’m not exactly sure where it goes when it reaches the bottom.
I stopped to take a picture of a cotton plant. I rode past many fields of cotton yesterday, but not so many today. This might be my last chance so I also picked a small piece of cotton and am going to see if I can bring it back home with me.
Morgan and Victor are on the road and doing well. J Here they are below:
This woman and her little girl were happy to let me take their picture. Its always fun to see their expression when I show them their picture on the screen of my camera. They are usually shy and a little embarrassed – but always smiling. J
These ladies were together – here’s her friend with a tiny baby.
This afternoon, after lunch we were video taped by the news reporter on a motorcycle. He was doing a story on our tour group. He also stopped Jan and me to pose as a backdrop to Morgan as he did a short news video clip on her. Then we were off and riding again. The afternoon was stressful with a lot of truck traffic, bad roads, dirt and hot temperatures. It takes 100% concentration in conditions like this. We were forced off the road several times, saw an overloaded cargo truck on its side (must’ve just happened before we passed) and had to walk our bikes across this bridge on the elevated walkway. It was too dangerous to cross on the road – part of our directions for the day included warnings about this area and we were prepared… as much as possible anyway. Here is Jan just ahead of me on the bridge:
